Get Comfortable in Front of Groups,
Let Your Natural Presence Draw People to You

Are you anxious about speaking in front of groups?

Would you like to feel a stronger sense of connection with your listeners?

Do you sometimes question whether you're making an impact?

If any of these are true for you, then the Speaking Circles Basic Course offers you a way forward.

The course teaches a gentle method of inviting connection and dissolving anxiety.

You will discover how to stand with presence, connect with your listeners, and speak with authenticity and ease anywhere, any time, to any group, large or small.

The transformative skill of Relational Presence is what makes this possible.

Relational Presence empowers you to:

  • Develop poise and confidence in front of groups

  • Connect from the heart with listeners

  • Express your True Voice

By practicing Relational Presence at a Speaking Circle, you can discover (or deepen) your own sense of ease and connection with groups, and thus magnify your impact.

The magic of comfortable presence
in front of groups can be yours.

Valuing Your Essence and Prioritizing Connection

All you need is the warm attention of a supportive

audience. And practice.

A Speaking Circle is the place to get that.

What Makes this Course Different

You need more than the conventional approach to public speaking if your work depends on:

  • Your authenticity

  • Your ability to inspire and motivate others

  • Your capacity for presence

  • Your knack for creating connection

You need a training that will both strengthen your muscle for creating rapport and evoke your natural charisma and authenticity.

This unique course:

  • Guides you to prioritize connection over content

  • Leads you to a sense of inner security that lets your natural charisma and authenticity shine forth

With Relational Presence, the focus is on "being with" your listeners rather than "talking at" them.

Why?

Because when you and your listeners experience a sense of mutual connection, your message resonates even more.

And when you are comfortable in your natural presence, people are drawn to you even more.

Through regular attendance at a Speaking Circle, you can develop an ease and poise that lets your natural presence emerge to captivate, inspire, and impress your audience.

Speaking Circles Basic Course Features

Zoom platform. Webcam required.

US$00/one 90-minute session or US$000/three-session package
¥0,000/one 90-minute session or ¥0,000/three-session package

Maximum 5 participants

Held with warm attention by supportive listeners, you will learn how to be with a virtual audience and speak comfortably on camera just as yourself, with presence.

A series of exercises lets you practice:

  • Using your breath

  • Directing your gaze

  • Speaking from your sweet spot—that place of flow and ease

  • Allowing natural silence (yes! even when you are speaking)

Practicing conscious breathing, gently gazing into another's eyes, and allowing natural silences are actions that serve to calm the nervous system.

The more you practice these, the more comfortable you begin to feel being the center of attention.

The more you practice these, the more your True Voice—your natural eloquence—finds freedom of expression.

Regular practice makes holding a calm center easier and feeling a natural sense of confidence second nature.

Each Speaking Circle guarantees you at least three turns in front of the virtual "room." Your turns are recorded and posted on a private YouTube channel for later viewing at your convenience.

For beginners and experienced presenters alike.

See the program description in Japanese.

*In-person Speaking Circles to be revived as circumstances permit.

The Speaking Circles Basic Course is held in both English and Japanese several times a month.

Kind Words

Rather than teaching presentation techniques, a Speaking Circle lets you develop your Relational Presence muscle, so that you can speak in public without fear.

Takahiro Kurata

I spent years in Toastmasters training to be an effective speaker, evaluator and leader. Working with Pam is different. At her Speaking Circles, I don’t feel stressed. I can just relax and let words flow, without any preparation. I can be myself. Often, I am surprised at what comes out of my mouth, and become more aware of my own thoughts and needs during my turn. Through Pam’s Circles, I also learned to feel my pure connection with other human beings.

Rosalyn Hagiwara

I did not know Pam, and I had no idea what a Speaking Circle was before going to one in 2005. I found it one of the most uplifting experiences of my life. I still attend, even after all these years.

Helen Fujimoto

Herself once afraid to stand up in front of an audience, Pam has a lot of empathy for those who find the idea frightening. She creates an atmosphere of loving acceptance, and guides you gently through various exercises. She doesn't rush you, or pressure you. She lets you feel safe to express yourself freely, and at your own pace.

H.R.

Pam’s quality of presence and the depth of care and professional skill in creating a loving and safe space is second to none. She elicits rather than tells, models rather than lectures, and supports each person through drawing attention to visible evidence of their growth in awareness and capacity.

Ken Burton

Reliable and deeply loving, Pam held my long-term vision with piercing clarity and wouldn’t allow me to side-line myself or settle for something less.

Haruna Shepherd

Pam is great at creating a safe space that invites you to discover your best style of public speaking, without script or prepared agenda.

Things People Often Ask

What is a Speaking Circle?

Speaking Circles are small groups of 6~10 people who gather to discover or deepen their sense of ease, confidence, and pleasure when speaking in front of groups.

At a Speaking Circle, participants listen from the heart and focus on the person in front, not on the content of what someone might be saying. This kind of non-judgmental listening creates a space where it is safe to be yourself.

As your natural self is gradually liberated from the yoke of performance anxiety, you can begin to move away from feeling self-conscious about being the center of attention and start taking pleasure in connecting with your audience.

This is where the Relational Presence magic begins!

The more at ease you become, the more your True Voice expresses itself. And voilá—your natural presence emerges to captivate, inspire, and impress your audience.

What happens at a Speaking Circle?

A Speaking Circle is like a gym for your Relational Presence muscle. Repetition builds strength. So you will have a set number of turns in front of the room alternated with time spent listening to others. Because connection with one person at a time in the audience is prioritized over content, you will focus on being with people rather than on delivering prepared content.

What's the difference between the Basic Course and the Message Course?

Both courses immerse you in the practice of Relational Presence. The Speaking Circles Basic Course follows the same format every time and emphasizes getting comfortable in front of a group through being present with one person at a time in the audience. The Speaking Circles Message Course is customized to the participants of each particular course and focuses on integrating Relational Presence with the delivery of structured content.

How much time is lecture, and how much time is actual content?

A Speaking Circle is highly experienctial. You will spend about 90% of the time practicing some aspect of Relational Presence.

How many times should I attend to overcome my fear of public speaking?

This is too individual to generalize. But the less comfortable you are with being the center of attention, the more practice you will need. It takes, perhaps, 5~10 Speaking Circles for someone to learn to consciously embody Relational Presence. After that, the practice centers on growing into Relational Presence as second nature.

I love public speaking. What can Relational Presence offer me?

By bringing Relational Presence into your public speaking, you can achieve a deeper connection with your audience and deliver a more impactful message. Once you learn how to use your presence to let your audience feel seen by you and to allow the listening from the audience to animate what you say, you will have opened the door to your sweet spot as a confident communicator.

Will I receive feedback on my presentation skills?

Positive feedback known as Essence Appreciation is given. I will coach you on the aspects of Relational Presence. And the video you receive of your turns in front of the room is perfect for self-feedback. For private feedback on conventional presentation skills, creating a talk, or presenting with slides, please contact me.

Will a Speaking Circle help me plan my talk?

Yes and no.

Yes in the sense that Relational Presence will help you access your natural eloquence and be comfortable enough in front of others to step into authentic self-expression. The Speaking Circles Message Course offers the outcome of applying your natural eloquence to structured content.

No in the sense that a Speaking Circle does not offer specific tips on the topic, organization, or structure of a talk.

For private feedback on conventional presentation skills, creating a talk, or presenting with slides, please contact me.

How is confidentiality handled?

Participants are asked to:

  • Refrain from comparison with previous turns or commenting on content when giving Essence Appreciation feedback

  • Refrain from bringing up someone's content during breaks or after the Circle.

  • Safeguard and not share the link to the recording posted on the private YouTube channel after each Circle. Participants have the option of not appearing on the recording.
